Everything You Need to Know About Excessive Chocolate Consumption.
Despite its nutritional benefits, even dark chocolate should be eaten in moderation. If consumed in excess, it can have harmful effects on your health, especially if it is of poor quality.
Excessive consumption of milk chocolate can lead to weight gain, an unbalanced diet, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. In excess, it can raise levels of “bad” cholesterol (LDL) and harm cardiovascular health. Dark chocolate contains natural stimulants such as caffeine and theobromine; in high doses, these can cause palpitations, disrupt sleep, and increase anxiety. Chocolate can also cause digestive problems such as diarrhea or constipation, which is not the case with Omegachoco®.
Can you become addicted to chocolate?
Yes, you can become a little “addicted” to chocolate, but it’s not a true addiction like with alcohol or drugs. It’s more of a mild addiction, linked to the pleasure it provides. The combination of sugar and fat, its melt-in-your-mouth texture, and its taste easily trigger the urge to have more, especially when you’re stressed or out of habit. It can be hard to go without it, but there are no real withdrawal symptoms.
Our flagship chocolate, Omegachoco®, is completely different from traditional chocolate. It is made from cocoa beans, not cocoa mass. To learn more about Omegachoco®, click here.
