Can you eat chocolate while you're pregnant?

Yes, it’s okay to eat chocolate during pregnancy, but always in moderation. Dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa—even better if it’s 75% pure cocoa beans) is rich in antioxidants and beneficial for cardiovascular health. In addition, its high magnesium and potassium content helps support the baby’s bone growth, ensures good blood circulation, and maintains healthy blood pressure.

A pregnant woman's nutritional needs increase because the baby draws on her reserves. That is why it is essential to eat a balanced diet throughout pregnancy.

What kind of chocolate should I eat while I'm pregnant?

While some people prefer milk chocolate or white chocolate, dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa) is still the healthiest option, whether you’re pregnant or not. Milk chocolate and white chocolate are much higher in sugar and fat. White chocolate contains only the fat from cocoa (cocoa butter); it lacks the health benefits of cocoa and isn’t good for your body.

What are the risks of eating chocolate during pregnancy?
